Nuestro centro ocupa el primer lugar en el oeste de Estados Unidos en volumen de trasplantes de \u00f3rganos en pacientes de 18 a\u00f1os o menos, y el tercero a nivel nacional. Tan solo en 2020, 20 pacientes pedi\u00e1tricos trasplantados proven\u00edan de otros estados.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s de los trasplantes de ri\u00f1\u00f3n, coraz\u00f3n, h\u00edgado, intestino y pulm\u00f3n, Stanford Children&#039;s Health es l\u00edder nacional en trasplantes de \u00f3rganos combinados, en los que se donan dos o m\u00e1s \u00f3rganos al mismo paciente en una sola cirug\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n existe una colaboraci\u00f3n pionera entre los equipos pedi\u00e1tricos de trasplante de c\u00e9lulas madre y de trasplante renal para tratar la displasia inmuno\u00f3sea de Schimke (SIOD), una enfermedad gen\u00e9tica extremadamente rara que afecta a m\u00faltiples sistemas del cuerpo. Este premio reconoce al equipo cient\u00edfico considerado m\u00e1s exitoso en todas las facetas de la investigaci\u00f3n del c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Estamos muy orgullosos de los logros de nuestro equipo durante los \u00faltimos ocho a\u00f1os&quot;, dice Mackall.<\/p>\n<h3>Un paciente card\u00edaco retribuye<\/h3>\n<p>Cuando la joven receptora de un trasplante, Athena Tran, recibi\u00f3 un deseo de Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area, decidi\u00f3 donar $5,000 al Programa de Terapias Card\u00edacas Avanzadas Pedi\u00e1tricas (PACT) y a la Escuela del Hospital de Ni\u00f1os Lucile Packard de Stanford.<\/p>\n<p>A Athena le diagnosticaron una rara afecci\u00f3n card\u00edaca llamada miocardiopat\u00eda restrictiva, en la que el coraz\u00f3n se endurece y no puede funcionar correctamente. Hace cuatro a\u00f1os, recibi\u00f3 un trasplante de coraz\u00f3n que le salv\u00f3 la vida en el Hospital Infantil Packard.<\/p>\n<p>Durante su estancia en nuestro hospital, la Escuela Hospitalaria tuvo un impacto significativo en Athena. En colaboraci\u00f3n con el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Palo Alto, la escuela ofrece un curr\u00edculo acad\u00e9mico totalmente acreditado y programas de enriquecimiento a los pacientes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYa recib\u00ed un regalo enorme. Soy muy afortunada y bendecida de poder tener esta nueva vida\u201d, dice Athena. \u201cRetribuir es lo m\u00ednimo que puedo hacer para agradecer a la gente lo que han hecho por m\u00ed\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Ensayos utilizan terapia experimental para c\u00e1ncer cerebral infantil mortal<\/h3>\n<p>Se est\u00e1 realizando un ensayo cl\u00ednico en el Hospital Infantil Packard para evaluar la eficacia de un tipo de terapia basada en c\u00e9lulas llamada c\u00e9lulas T CAR para abordar el glioma pontino intr\u00ednseco difuso (DIPG), un tumor que hist\u00f3ricamente ha demostrado ser resistente a todas las terapias convencionales.<\/p>\n<p>El primer paciente inici\u00f3 el tratamiento en junio pasado. Las c\u00e9lulas T CAR del ensayo se destinan a pacientes con una mutaci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica en el gen H3K27M. Esta mutaci\u00f3n aumenta la cantidad de otro marcador presente en las c\u00e9lulas tumorales, llamado GD2.
