Este trastorno convulsivo afecta principalmente a beb\u00e9s durante su primer a\u00f1o de vida y se diagnostica en aproximadamente 2500 ni\u00f1os en todo Estados Unidos cada a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Aunque existen medicamentos para aliviar los espasmos, los ni\u00f1os con s\u00edndrome de Istmo suele presentar tambi\u00e9n discapacidades del desarrollo y autismo. En el caso de Isabel, nuestro hospital le ha brindado atenci\u00f3n en diversas \u00e1reas m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la neurolog\u00eda, como audiolog\u00eda, oftalmolog\u00eda, gen\u00e9tica, ginecolog\u00eda y gastroenterolog\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Adem\u00e1s, Isabel recibe terapia f\u00edsica, ocupacional y del habla cada semana.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u00abIsabel ha mejorado much\u00edsimo\u00bb, dice Robert. \u00abCuando era mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a, ten\u00eda problemas para hablar, y casi siempre solo mis padres y yo pod\u00edamos entenderla. Ha pasado incontables horas en terapia del habla durante a\u00f1os, y ahora la diferencia es incre\u00edble. Todo el mundo la entiende, y ahora est\u00e1 aprendiendo a expresar sus pensamientos con claridad, algo que habr\u00eda sido imposible cuando empez\u00f3\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Pero \u00bfcu\u00e1l es la terapia favorita de Isabel? La musicoterapia. Dedica al menos cuatro horas al mes a explorar instrumentos musicales y a expresarse a trav\u00e9s de canciones y sonidos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cEl Hospital Infantil Packard ha hecho mucho por mi hermana, y hemos dependido de \u00e9l para su atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica durante toda su vida\u201d, a\u00f1ade Robert. \u201cPara m\u00ed, fue una decisi\u00f3n obvia no solo devolverle el favor al Hospital Infantil Packard, sino tambi\u00e9n ayudar a establecer un programa de musicoterapia que marcar\u00eda la diferencia para ni\u00f1os necesitados, como mi hermana\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Robert ha recaudado fondos a trav\u00e9s de la carrera de verano Scamper y otras actividades para apoyar y ampliar la musicoterapia en el hospital.
