Sent\u00edamos confusi\u00f3n, negaci\u00f3n y miedo mientras conduc\u00edamos a Palo Alto, sin estar preparados para lo que iba a suceder. Nos sentamos en la sala de exploraci\u00f3n mientras los m\u00e9dicos nos dec\u00edan que nuestra hija de dos a\u00f1os ten\u00eda leucemia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">En este momento de devastaci\u00f3n, la familia de Effy sinti\u00f3 por primera vez vuestro apoyo. Jake, un especialista en desarrollo infantil, entr\u00f3 en la habitaci\u00f3n y jug\u00f3 con burbujas con Effy y su hermano peque\u00f1o, Harry, mientras Jennifer y su marido, James, comenzaban a asimilar lo que estaba sucediendo y se enfrentaban al proceso de ingreso en el hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u201cRecuerdo mirarla, mientras yo estaba llena de miedo, pavor y confusi\u00f3n, y ella soplaba burbujas\u201d, dice Jennifer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Durante los siguientes tres a\u00f1os y medio, Effy recibi\u00f3 tratamiento contra el c\u00e1ncer en nuestro hospital, gracias a la participaci\u00f3n de otros ni\u00f1os y familias que la precedieron en estudios e investigaciones. \u00abEl primer d\u00eda nos preguntaron si estar\u00edamos dispuestos a participar en los estudios del Hospital Infantil Packard, y sin dudarlo, mi esposo y yo dijimos que s\u00ed\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Effy luch\u00f3 valientemente contra el c\u00e1ncer, soportando innumerables sesiones de quimioterapia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Hoy, Effy es una ni\u00f1a de cinco a\u00f1os llena de vida, que empez\u00f3 el jard\u00edn de infancia y le encantan los monos. Su familia est\u00e1 inmensamente agradecida por el apoyo de la comunidad, que se volc\u00f3 con Effy y que sigue financiando la investigaci\u00f3n para mejorar la vida de los ni\u00f1os diagnosticados con c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u00abEsa investigaci\u00f3n y esos estudios no se financiar\u00edan si no fuera por la generosidad de los donantes del Hospital Infantil Packard\u00bb, dice Jennifer. \u00abNo ser\u00eda posible sin ustedes.
