El Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n de Salud Maternoinfantil de Stanford (MCHRI) utiliza su Fondo para la Infancia<\/em> Donaciones para apoyar subvenciones piloto en Investigaci\u00f3n Comunitaria para Promover la Equidad en Salud. La Dra. Peace Nkechinyere Dike, hepat\u00f3loga pedi\u00e1trica especializada en trasplantes hep\u00e1ticos, utiliza su subvenci\u00f3n para abordar las disparidades raciales y \u00e9tnicas en el trasplante hep\u00e1tico pedi\u00e1trico.<\/p>\n

\u201cUn trasplante de h\u00edgado es una oportunidad para una nueva vida para muchos ni\u00f1os\u201d, afirma Dike, profesor cl\u00ednico adjunto de pediatr\u00eda (Gastroenterolog\u00eda, Hepatolog\u00eda y Nutrici\u00f3n) en la Facultad de Medicina de Stanford. \u201cMe atrajo esta especialidad porque vi la diferencia milagrosa que supon\u00eda para estos ni\u00f1os y sus familias\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sin embargo, en Estados Unidos, aproximadamente el 10 % de los ni\u00f1os en lista de espera para trasplante de h\u00edgado fallecen. Dike tambi\u00e9n observ\u00f3 las diferencias en el acceso al trasplante de h\u00edgado y las disparidades entre los grupos raciales y \u00e9tnicos.<\/p>\n

"\u00bfC\u00f3mo logramos que el acceso a los trasplantes de h\u00edgado sea equitativo?", pregunta Dike. "Mi investigaci\u00f3n busca cerrar la brecha de inequidad para mejorar el acceso de todos los ni\u00f1os a un trasplante oportuno. Creo que ning\u00fan ni\u00f1o deber\u00eda morir esperando un trasplante, y el acceso a un trasplante de h\u00edgado oportuno no deber\u00eda depender de la raza ni la etnia", afirma Dike.<\/p>\n

Dike colabora con grupos comunitarios del \u00c1rea de la Bah\u00eda para fundamentar su investigaci\u00f3n e identificar las barreras que enfrentan las familias y los ni\u00f1os que necesitan un trasplante de h\u00edgado.<\/p>\n
