Una vida de alegr\u00eda y resiliencia<\/h2>\n

El primer examen posnatal de Randy revel\u00f3 que su fontanela, la parte blanda del cr\u00e1neo de reci\u00e9n nacido, ya se hab\u00eda cerrado. \u201cA partir de ese momento, la vida se convirti\u00f3 en un verdadero desaf\u00edo\u201d, recuerda Ruby.<\/p>\n

Tras un a\u00f1o de retraso en el desarrollo, fueron derivados a un hospital infantil en el noroeste del Pac\u00edfico. All\u00ed, los m\u00e9dicos le dijeron a Ruby que su hijo tendr\u00eda discapacidades f\u00edsicas graves, pero que sus capacidades cognitivas no se ver\u00edan afectadas.<\/p>\n

Randy falleci\u00f3 en 1993 a la edad de 32 a\u00f1os. Su familia se reuni\u00f3 en el patio trasero de su casa para un servicio conmemorativo. En su elogio f\u00fanebre, Ruby dijo:\u00a0\u201cRandy no era un gran erudito. No invent\u00f3 ninguna cura. No tuvo \u00e9xito en los negocios. No jugaba al f\u00fatbol.
