Cuando descubri\u00f3 que solo el 61% de la investigaci\u00f3n en ciencias del deporte se realiza exclusivamente en mujeres, se propuso cambiar eso. Kraus ahora es especialista en medicina f\u00edsica y rehabilitaci\u00f3n deportiva en Stanford Medicine Children&#039;s Health y directora fundadora de Stanford. <a href=\"https:\/\/fastr.stanford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Programa de Investigaci\u00f3n Traslacional y Cient\u00edfica para Atletas Femeninas (FASTR)<\/a>, parte de la Alianza para el Desempe\u00f1o Humano Wu Tsai.<\/p>\n<p>Desde que FASTR se puso en marcha en 2021, Kraus y su equipo han liderado investigaciones originales sobre atletas femeninas y han compartido sus hallazgos a trav\u00e9s de folletos, redes sociales y charlas con atletas femeninas de secundaria y universitarias, empoderando a las j\u00f3venes para que comprendan mejor sus cuerpos y maximicen su rendimiento.<\/p>\n<p>Le preguntamos a Kraus sobre su investigaci\u00f3n y qu\u00e9 quiere que sepan las j\u00f3venes atletas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfCu\u00e1les son los beneficios de practicar deporte para las ni\u00f1as y las j\u00f3venes?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mantenerse activo en el deporte durante la adolescencia y la juventud puede ense\u00f1ar mucho m\u00e1s que habilidades espec\u00edficas. Ense\u00f1a trabajo en equipo, liderazgo y a llevar tu cuerpo al l\u00edmite de lo que cre\u00edas posible. Adem\u00e1s, el movimiento, en cualquiera de sus formas, puede prevenir enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas y ayudar a tratar trastornos del estado de \u00e1nimo como la depresi\u00f3n y la ansiedad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>En Estados Unidos, cada vez m\u00e1s mujeres participan en deportes, pero abandonan la pr\u00e1ctica deportiva en mayor proporci\u00f3n que los hombres. \u00bfA qu\u00e9 se debe esto?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Muchos factores influyen, como los cambios hormonales durante la pubertad, la imagen corporal, las presiones sociales y las lesiones. La oportunidad ahora no reside solo en que las ni\u00f1as practiquen deporte, sino en crear entornos que favorezcan su salud para que puedan mantener su actividad a largo plazo. Esto repercute en c\u00f3mo las cuidamos y educamos. En el \u00e1mbito de la investigaci\u00f3n, me interesa examinar el impacto potencial de las hormonas en el riesgo de lesiones, la recuperaci\u00f3n y el rendimiento general.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 Stanford es el lugar ideal para que usted alcance sus objetivos cl\u00ednicos y de investigaci\u00f3n?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nuestro equipo multidisciplinario incluye psic\u00f3logos deportivos, nutricionistas, ginec\u00f3logos y fisioterapeutas. Juntos, hemos evolucionado desde el tratamiento aislado de la lesi\u00f3n hasta abordar las causas subyacentes, como la nutrici\u00f3n y la salud menstrual. Con apoyo filantr\u00f3pico, podemos acelerar los esfuerzos para abordar la alarmante tasa de lesiones del ligamento cruzado anterior en atletas femeninas y mejorar la salud hormonal y \u00f3sea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 papel han desempe\u00f1ado los deportes a lo largo de tu vida y c\u00f3mo seguiste priorizando la actividad f\u00edsica durante el embarazo y el posparto?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Desde muy joven, aprend\u00ed c\u00f3mo el movimiento y el deporte pod\u00edan desafiarme de una manera \u00fanica, ense\u00f1arme sobre m\u00ed mismo y fortalecer mi confianza. He corrido nueve maratones y un ultramarat\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Estuve haciendo ejercicio hasta que di a luz a mi hija. Cuando retom\u00e9 el running despu\u00e9s del parto, me asegur\u00e9 de priorizar la nutrici\u00f3n y el descanso, y tambi\u00e9n comenc\u00e9 la fisioterapia p\u00e9lvica muy pronto.<\/p>\n<p>Estamos desarrollando mejores recursos para apoyar a las mujeres durante el embarazo y el posparto. Durante d\u00e9cadas, las mujeres han recibido consejos contradictorios \u2014y a menudo excesivamente cautelosos\u2014 sobre el ejercicio durante el embarazo y carecen de una gu\u00eda clara sobre c\u00f3mo retomar la actividad f\u00edsica en el posparto.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 consejos tienes para las chicas y mujeres j\u00f3venes deportistas?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La deficiencia de hierro es com\u00fan debido al aumento de las necesidades de este mineral por el crecimiento, la menstruaci\u00f3n y las p\u00e9rdidas relacionadas con el entrenamiento. Las atletas deben consumir diariamente alimentos ricos en hierro, como carne roja, lentejas, tofu y espinacas.<\/p>\n<p>Lo m\u00e1s importante es que aceptes tu cuerpo y evites compararte con los dem\u00e1s.
