Parec\u00eda estar bien, salvo por un gran chich\u00f3n en la cabeza, hasta el d\u00eda siguiente, cuando vomit\u00f3 a la hora del almuerzo. El padre de Carter, Patrick, lo llev\u00f3 a urgencias, donde le hicieron una tomograf\u00eda computarizada. Carter ten\u00eda un papiloma del plexo coroideo, un tipo raro de tumor cerebral benigno que crece en el espacio l\u00edquido del cerebro. Aunque era peque\u00f1o, nadie puede predecir c\u00f3mo se comportar\u00e1 un tumor, si crecer\u00e1 ni qu\u00e9 tipo de problemas causar\u00e1, por lo que el Dr. Mahaney recomend\u00f3 la cirug\u00eda.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl cr\u00e1neo es una cavidad fija\u201d, explica. \u201cY si algo m\u00e1s ocupa espacio dentro del cr\u00e1neo, eso significa menos espacio para el cerebro. Si se encuentra en una zona donde obstruye el flujo normal del l\u00edquido cefalorraqu\u00eddeo, no necesitar\u00eda mucho crecimiento para bloquear dicho espacio y causar una afecci\u00f3n llamada hidrocefalia, que si no se trata es mortal\u201d.<\/p>\n

El Dr. Mahaney oper\u00f3 a Carter y extirp\u00f3 el tumor con \u00e9xito. Desde la cirug\u00eda, Carter no ha tenido ning\u00fan problema, incluso jug\u00f3 su primera temporada de f\u00fatbol americano sin contacto.<\/p>\n
