Pero cuando Armaneigh tuvo dificultades para respirar, Tianna la llev\u00f3 a urgencias cerca de su casa en Modesto. Un ecocardiograma revel\u00f3 que el coraz\u00f3n de Armaneigh estaba agrandado y que necesitaba atenci\u00f3n card\u00edaca especializada con urgencia. El equipo m\u00e9dico local se puso en contacto con el Hospital Infantil Lucile Packard de Stanford.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEsa tarde, mi beb\u00e9 fue trasladado en avi\u00f3n a Stanford\u201d, dice Tianna.<\/p>\n<h3>Un equipo listo para Armaneigh<\/h3>\n<p>Nuestro equipo del Centro Card\u00edaco Infantil Betty Irene Moore diagnostic\u00f3 a Armaneigh con miocardiopat\u00eda dilatada y le dio la impactante noticia de que necesitaba un trasplante de coraz\u00f3n. Afortunadamente, nuestro Centro Card\u00edaco es reconocido por su atenci\u00f3n y resultados en trasplantes card\u00edacos pedi\u00e1tricos. Desde el primer trasplante de coraz\u00f3n realizado en nuestro hospital hace casi cuatro d\u00e9cadas, nuestros equipos m\u00e9dicos han llevado a cabo m\u00e1s de 500 trasplantes. Esta cifra supera a la de casi cualquier otro hospital infantil en los Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<p>Nuestro hospital tambi\u00e9n cuenta con un programa de Terapias Card\u00edacas Avanzadas Pedi\u00e1tricas (PACT) de gran \u00e9xito que ayuda a ni\u00f1os con insuficiencia card\u00edaca a sobrevivir a la espera, a veces de varios a\u00f1os, de un trasplante. En ocasiones, no hay corazones de donantes disponibles de inmediato.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl programa PACT del Packard Children&#039;s re\u00fane a expertos en cardiomiopat\u00eda, insuficiencia card\u00edaca y trasplante de coraz\u00f3n para ofrecer a nuestros pacientes el mejor camino a seguir durante un momento incre\u00edblemente dif\u00edcil de sus vidas\u201d, explica David Rosenthal, MD, profesor de cardiolog\u00eda pedi\u00e1trica en la Facultad de Medicina de Stanford y director del equipo PACT.<\/p>\n<p>Armaneigh se someti\u00f3 a una cirug\u00eda para recibir un dispositivo de asistencia ventricular llamado Berlin Heart, que bombeaba sangre por su cuerpo mientras esperaba un trasplante. Fue mucho para una beb\u00e9 de 10 meses, pero Tianna admiraba la fortaleza de su hija.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemostr\u00f3 una gran resistencia durante todo el proceso\u201d, dice Tianna.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo de PACT se centr\u00f3 en fortalecer a Armaneigh para lo que le esperaba. Durante su estancia en el hospital, la madre de Armaneigh la paseaba en un carrito con su coraz\u00f3n artificial Berlin Heart a su lado, deteni\u00e9ndose a menudo para admirar una colorida escultura de una vaca hecha con miles de juguetes infantiles.<\/p>\n<p>Lamentablemente, la salud de Armaneigh empeor\u00f3 cuando sufri\u00f3 tres derrames cerebrales. Rosenthal se asegur\u00f3 de que Tianna tuviera la oportunidad de hacer preguntas, expresar sus miedos y frustraciones, y recibir el apoyo que necesitaba para estar al lado de Armaneigh en la unidad de cuidados intensivos cardiovasculares (UCIC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEn Stanford, lo m\u00e1s importante es el paciente y su familia\u201d, dice Tianna. \u201cEl Dr. Rosenthal es una persona sumamente bondadosa. Se tom\u00f3 el tiempo necesario para ganarse mi confianza y hacerme sentir c\u00f3moda despu\u00e9s de haber superado tantas dificultades con los derrames cerebrales de Armaneigh. Agradezco que viniera a vernos incluso cuando no le tocaba trabajar\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A medida que mejoraba la salud de Armaneigh, ella y su madre participaron en una ceremonia del Mes de la Donaci\u00f3n de \u00d3rganos en nuestro Jard\u00edn Dawes, plantando molinillos de viento en honor a las decenas de pacientes del Hospital Infantil Packard que esperan un trasplante de \u00f3rganos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAntes de todo esto, no sab\u00eda mucho sobre la donaci\u00f3n de \u00f3rganos, sobre donar vida\u201d, dice Tianna. \u201cPero ahora he conocido a muchas personas cuyas vidas se han salvado, y estoy muy agradecida a quienes toman la decisi\u00f3n de donar vida\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>El turno de Armaneigh<\/h3>\n<p>La llamada lleg\u00f3 en junio. Tras 292 d\u00edas, Tianna recibi\u00f3 la noticia de que un coraz\u00f3n estaba listo para Armaneigh. El equipo se puso manos a la obra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa familia de Armaneigh ha superado much\u00edsimas dificultades desde que los conoc\u00ed hace poco m\u00e1s de un a\u00f1o\u201d, comenta Megan Miller, trabajadora social del Centro del Coraz\u00f3n. \u201cArmaneigh tuvo que esperar mucho tiempo para recibir un trasplante, pero su madre y su equipo m\u00e9dico se mantuvieron comprometidos con su salud y bienestar. Fue este compromiso y fortaleza lo que permiti\u00f3 a Armaneigh llegar hasta donde est\u00e1 hoy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando Armaneigh y Tianna finalmente abandonaron el hospital despu\u00e9s de 341 d\u00edas, el equipo de atenci\u00f3n que se hab\u00eda convertido en su segunda familia se aline\u00f3 en los pasillos agitando pompones para animarlas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArmaneigh alcanz\u00f3 muchos hitos en el hospital, y el equipo estuvo presente en todos ellos\u201d, dice Tianna. \u201cSydnee, la coordinadora de recreaci\u00f3n en la sala de juegos, nos brind\u00f3 much\u00edsima alegr\u00eda. Los equipos de la UCIP 200 y la UCIC nos colmaron de cari\u00f1o. Se nota que para las enfermeras, esto no es solo un trabajo. Y el Dr. Kaufman realmente nos ha apoyado en todo momento\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tianna reconoce la labor de Beth Kaufman, MD, profesora cl\u00ednica de cardiolog\u00eda pedi\u00e1trica y directora del Programa de Cardiomiopat\u00eda Pedi\u00e1trica del hospital, por abogar por Armaneigh y ser una fuente de fortaleza y perspectiva.<\/p>\n<h3>Un coraz\u00f3n agradecido<\/h3>\n<p>Hoy, Armaneigh es una ni\u00f1a vivaz y encantadora. Le fascina Minnie Mouse y cantar las canciones de la Casa de Mickey Mouse. &quot;Ese es su lugar feliz&quot;, dice Tianna.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias al apoyo de los donantes y del equipo de servicios sociales del hospital, Armaneigh y Tianna se alojan en la Casa Ronald McDonald de Stanford para estar cerca del hospital y de su equipo m\u00e9dico.
