Register NowThe HP Silicon Valley Golf Club and Agilent Golf Club will host their 20th annual charity golf tournament, the “Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard Charity Golf Classic,” on Monday, September 29, 2014, at the magnificent Golf Club at Boulder Ridge, a private course overlooking San Jose’s beautiful Almaden Valley. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. The hospital has received over $585,000 from this event since its inception in 1995. The tournament is named in honor of the legendary Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and philanthropists who founded Hewlett-Packard 75 years ago; it was David Packard himself who was the event’s largest contributor in its first year, as he agreed to match all funds raised that year.
The 2014 “Bill and Dave Golf Classic” will begin with chipping and putting contests in the morning followed by a box lunch and then a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. The tournament’s format will be a “four-player scramble”: each player tees off on each hole; the best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot; then the best of the second shots is determined, and so on until the ball is holed. Prizes will be awarded to tournament winners (two flights), with numerous contests held throughout the scramble: longest drive, most accurate drive, closest to the pin, putting, and chipping. New this year, our Hole-in-One Challenge: prizes will be awarded for a hole-in-one on any par-three hole; score an ace on the Super Hole-In-One hole and win a $6,000 cash prize! Carts and on-course refreshments, will be provided.
After the tournament, participants and guests will attend an awards dinner at the Boulder Ridge Pavilion, hosted by Gary Scott Thomas, morning anchor at KRTY-FM in San Jose. Thomas donates his time and energy to the Bill and Dave Charity Golf Classic in gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, whom he credits with saving the life of his then-newborn son, Jackson, now a healthy toddler. In addition to the tournament, there will be a raffle, with grand prize donated by HP, and silent auction with winners announced following the dinner.
