Purpose
The Young Investigator Awards program was created to increase the number of pediatric faculty in California whose research focuses on the care of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and to prioritize the care of CYSHCN in pediatric training programs in the state. The awards engaged 12 pediatric fellows and junior faculty members in research to improve the systems of care on which CYSHCN depend, with the hope that they would continue to focus on this population in their research careers. Each Young Investigator had a faculty mentor at their institution and was offered opportunities for networking. Grant funding was provided to Stanford University to administer the award program and disburse funding to awardees.
