Summer Scamper, presented by Gardner Capital, was a record-breaking success, thanks to our amazing community!
More than 2,600 walkers, runners, and Scamper-ers joined us on the Stanford campus on Sunday, June 25, raising over $710,000 for patients and their families at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford! They Scampered—in person and virtually—in celebration of six inspiring Patient Heroes who were treated at Packard Children’s Hospital: Anna Jo, Anthony, Iliana, Marlee Jo, Riley, and Weston.
The annual 5k featured a run, walk, and wheelchair division, and race results are up now! Congrats to all who crossed the finish line!
The kids’ fun run, sponsored by The Draper Foundation, was an exciting event for kids and their families. Star athletes from the Stanford women’s basketball and women’s track & field team led pre-race stretches. Their enthusiasm was matched by the mascots from the San Jose Sharks, San Jose Giants, and San Jose Earthquakes, who posed for pictures and gave lots of high fives. Afterward, every child received a finisher medal.
The fun continued at the Family Festival with music, food, bubbles, and more. Our corporate sponsors and staff from Stanford Medicine Children’s Health hosted booths that engaged families with games and learning activities. Not to be outdone, Stanford football players hosted a dunk tank fundraiser, where they were willing to take a plunge for a small donation. Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team hosted a friendly hoops competition.
A special thank you to the Association of Auxiliaries, our top fundraiser! They raised $80,000 for the Teen Health Van, a mobile health clinic that offers free health services to uninsured and underinsured youth ages 12 to 25.
Congratulations to Michael Link, MD, for being named our Hospital Hero. Dr. Link, a pediatric hematologist-oncologist and the Lydia J. Lee Professor in Pediatric Oncology was nominated for this honor by his current patient families, and some from over 25 years ago.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing sponsors: Gardner Capital, Stanford Federal Credit Union, Perkins Coie, CM Capital Foundation, The Draper Foundation, Joseph J. Albanese, Altamont Capital, Sheraton Palo Alto, Westin Palo Alto, The Clement Palo Alto, Hercules Capital, and Artemis Connection. Summer Scamper is our hospital’s biggest community fundraising event of the year. It would not be possible without your support and generosity. Thanks to all who walked or ran, volunteered, or donated to support our hospital’s patients and families!
