Hyundai Motor America has been a significant supporter of pediatric cancer research at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for more than a decade through its Hyundai Hope On Wheels program. Every time a new vehicle is sold in the United States, the Hyundai dealer makes a donation. To date, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has given Packard Children’s more than $2 million to fund groundbreaking research that is helping save the lives of children with cancer in the Bay Area and beyond.
This year, Hyundai Hope On Wheels supported Kathleen Sakamoto, MD, PhD, the Shelagh Galligan Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Sakamoto’s hope is to improve the overall survival of children with leukemia so that they will live healthy and productive lives. She is making progress not only in understanding how new therapies work, but also studying how to best use these drugs in patients
At a check presentation in September 2018, Aude, mother to pediatric cancer patient Julien, expressed her heartfelt to Hyundai representatives: “Saying 'thank you' goes a long way, but I promise you there are no words that truly summarize the gratefulness and admiration our family has for you, Dr. Sakamoto, for everyone in the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, and for Hyundai Hope On Wheels. But if you take a good look at Julien, who is 8 years old, living life to the fullest, I'm sure you will feel proud of what you do for us."
