Fund Discoveries in Children’s Health

The Foundation Relations team partners with Stanford faculty to advance world-class research, clinical care, and education—work that is made possible by foundations from across the country. Together, we can

  • prevent preterm birth so babies get the best possible start,
  • gain a better understanding of rare diseases,
  • design therapies that bring us closer to cures for tough-to-treat cancers and heart disease, and
  • care for the whole child and family with family assistance programs and mental health support.

Meet Our Renowned Researchers

Dr. Michelle Monje is a neuroscientist and neuro-oncologist working to understand a rare, universally fatal form of childhood brain cancer. Her groundbreaking work is upending the entire field of pediatric brain tumor research and giving families hope.

Dr. Matt Porteus is the director of the Center for Definitive and Curative Medicine. By harnessing the power of gene editing, he’s focused on developing a cure for sickle cell disease.

Dr. Agnieszka Czechowicz’s research focuses on finding ways to eliminate aggressive cancer stem cells, which ultimately could lead to safer, more consistently effective treatments for kids with challenging blood cancers like leukemia, as well as prevent similar cancers in people with predisposition syndrome. She is also developing innovative cell and gene therapy approaches to treat kids with genetic diseases.

Dr. Arash Anoshiravani is dedicated to helping uninsured and homeless youths become healthy adults. As the medical director for the Stanford Children’s Health Teen Van—a mobile clinic that travels around the Bay Area—he and his team provide free comprehensive care to underserved youths and young adults. The Van’s work is funded almost entirely by donors.
