Officers from the City of Seaside Police Department are going above and beyond their pledge of “Honor, Pride and Commitment” to serve children and families in their community. They launched the Heroes 4 Kids program, a community-wide effort to help families from Seaside and the Monterey Peninsula area who are receiving care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.
“Public safety organizations need to show we do far more than just respond to calls and protect the public,” said Nick Borges, Acting Patrol Commander with the Seaside Police Department. “We can collaborate with our community and maximize our efforts to help in a much more powerful way. If a person becomes ill in our community, we can now activate our Heroes 4 Kids team and lead the way in a community-oriented support effort!”
Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford also supports families from Seaside and the greater Monterey Peninsula—caring for some of the area’s sickest children and expectant mothers in need of our expert care.
Each year more than 19,000 children and expectant mothers from the Monterey Peninsula receive care through the Stanford Children’s Health network. In addition to facing medical challenges, these families often have to endure long commutes to our hospital in Palo Alto, missing time from work to ensure their child receives the specialized care they need.
To help bring care closer to home for to these families, Stanford Children’s Health has expanded to include pediatric clinics throughout the Bay Area, as well as Salinas and Monterey. Our telehealth program—which got its start in Monterey—also provides a way for our Palo Alto-based specialists to see patients miles away.
Through Heroes 4 Kids, the Seaside Police Department is hosting an online fundraiser for the Stanford Children’s Health Specialty Services clinic that is set to open June 15, 2016 in Monterey. The new clinic will be home to specialists in cardiology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology and urology. The Heroes 4 Kids toy drive will collect fun items to be given to patients at our hospital in Palo Alto.

The community is invited to join the Seaside Police Department and their public service partners at a Heroes 4 Kids barbecue and toy drive on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from noon to 4 p.m. at Laguna Grande Park in Seaside.
