These kids put Karate Kid to shame! The nationally-ranked extreme martial artists from All Star Karate Center in Redwood City are amazing at their craft and at giving back to the community.
“This is our second annual Camp Adrenaline Night Show, showcasing our amazing students and professionals in the industry. We always seek opportunities to give back to causes we care about, and there’s nothing more important to us than children’s health,” said James Kane, five-time World Champion martial artist and co-owner of the dojo with his wife Tamara. “Our family has a personal connection to cancer, and we wanted to support other families in their fights.”
They decided to sell a special-edition Camp Adrenaline t-shirt with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting social work for oncology patients at our hospital. Their initial goal was to sell 100 t-shirts and raise $2,500.
“Before the event, the shirts nearly sold out!” said Tamara. “We had to call the vendor to rush-order more shirts so we’d have some to sell on the night of the showcase.”
More than 150 people attended the event featuring world-renowned martial artists and stunt artists from across the country. Extreme martial artists battled one another in acrobatic dance-like movements that would make Jackie Chan proud.
Halfway through the night, one generous couple from Menlo Park was so inspired by the event that they decided to make a $1,000 gift and challenged the audience to match their gift.
“Please donate whatever you can—even $1 or $5 can make a difference, and we’ll match it dollar for dollar up to $1,000,” they encouraged the crowd. “But, even if you don’t donate, we’ll still give the full $1,000.”
In total the event raised an amazing $5,198 for social work for oncology patients.
“This funding will help us support our cancer patients and families with things such as food, clothing, housing, and transportation,” Emma Lucas, Resource Center Manager at our hospital, addressed the audience, “so that our patient families can focus on healing.”
