Primary Contact: Ashley Grosse
Grant Amount: $50,000 for 6 months
Date Awarded:
Purpose
This grant provides support for a national questionnaire that will assess the impact of COVID-19 on adverse and positive childhood experiences. Funding will be used to add an additional five questions specific to the experiences of families with children with special health care needs. The questionnaire will be fielded three times nationally over a nine-month period, with an oversample of 1,500 families with children in California in each iteration.
Outcome
Responses from the questionnaire will help inform the field about the experiences of families of children with special health care needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional data analysis will be conducted to understand the challenges families of children with special health care needs are facing in California and nationwide.
Data from the respondents in California can be accessed at: kidsdata.org/COVID19. Data are available for California and seven regions within the state. Findings are broken down by family income level, race/ethnicity, and the presence of a child with special health care needs in the household.
Based on responses to the national questionnaire, the American Academy of Pediatrics produced a report, The Impact of the Pandemic on Households with CYSHCN, that describes the experiences of children with special health care needs and their families during the pandemic.
