Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford values the healing powers of art. In a hospital setting, art sparks imagination, eases anxiety, and offers families and children precious moments of relief.
Thanks to a generous gift from the McMurtry Family Foundation, more than 20 new pieces of art will fill the hospital’s West Building, home to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and maternal health spaces.
Among the compelling artworks is a brightly colored painting featuring two parent quails surrounded by their chicks. Meanwhile, a triptych of small animal portraits made from Korean hanji paper depicts lemurs, owls, and koala bears.
“Each artwork was carefully chosen with the intention of supporting our patients and families through their hospital journey,” says Elizabeth Dunlevie, a member of the hospital’s public spaces committee and a longtime board member of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health. “The pieces will engage, entertain, and, in many cases, provide educational opportunities to the viewers.”
For more than 25 years, the McMurtry Family Foundation has underwritten artwork in key spaces in the hospital. Thank you for helping to create a healing environment where beauty, imagination, and hope thrive.
