We are grateful to Lucile Packard Foundation Board members Mindy Rogers, Tonia Karr, and Susan Ford Dorsey for hosting a learning session last January. The event highlighted Stanford Children’s commitment to addressing health equity for children and moms in today’s changing landscape.

The luncheon featured Nadine Burke Harris, MD, California’s first surgeon general. She spoke about the impact of adverse childhood experiences on lifelong health—and highlighted how changes in health policy are impacting families.

Burke Harris was followed by Mary Leonard, MD, MSCE, the Arline and Pete Harman Professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics; Ryan Padrez, MD, co-director of the Office of Child Health Equity (OCHE); and Ndidi Unaka, MD, MEd, our hospital’s chief health equity officer. They spoke to how these changes are impacting our community and how their teams are innovating solutions to address families’ urgent issues—from access to care, food, and housing to early literacy and beyond.

Our Foundation Board members have also generously given to advance health equity initiatives. With their most recent gifts, Mindy and Jesse Rogers provided support for the OCHE, and Tonia and Adam Karr made a commitment to name a directorship for our hospital’s chief health equity officer. Their gifts will support our hospital and the School of Medicine’s most critical health equity work.

Thank you, Tonia, Mindy, and Susan for your vision, generosity, and commitment to creating a strong future for all children and families.
