Packard Children’s Awarded $150,000 Child Safety Grant From Kohl’s

Free car seat fitting event to be hosted at Redwood City store on Tuesday, September 18.

PALO ALTO – On Tuesday, September 18, Kohl’s Department Stores will award Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford with a grant of $153,996, the annual total generated through its Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program.

Since 2005, Kohl’s has donated more than $878,000 to Packard Children’s through the sales of special books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profits directed to the hospital. Support from Kohl’s helps to underwrite the Kohl’s Child Safety and Outreach Program, an ongoing partnership with Packard Children’s to reduce harm to Bay Area children. The program promotes car seat, bicycle, and pedestrian safety at health fairs and community events across the South Bay and Peninsula.

To celebrate this year’s grant, Kohl’s will host a free car seat safety event at its Redwood City location. Officers from the California Highway Patrol and bilingual technicians from Packard Children’s will inspect car seats and provide parents with information and best practices. Appointments for a car seat fitting with a certified technician can be made online at carseatfitting.lpch.org or by calling (650) 736-2981.

This event coincides with National Child Passenger Safety Week. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury and death to children ages 2 to 14 and the leading cause of injury-related death for children under 2. When installed and used correctly, child safety seats and safety belts can save lives.
