“Over the Hedge” and Into Kohl’s: Special Merchandise to Support Kids Across the Country

Kohl’s brings entertainment to families while supporting children’s health and educational opportunities nationwide.

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., – Why wait for the highly anticipated summer blockbuster to open in theatres before getting a head start on the excitement? Beginning May 8, Kohl’s Department Stores is offering an “Over the Hedge” story book with corresponding character plush – RJ the raccoon and Verne the turtle.

Children will enjoy the fun and lighthearted tale of friendship and adventure as a mischievous raccoon and his forest creature friends venture over the hedge that separates them from a new suburban development that appeared over the winter while they were sleeping.

As part of its Kohl’s Cares for Kids® summer program, Kohl’s stores across the country will feature the special items for $5 each with 100 percent of the net profits benefiting children’s health and educational opportunities in Kohl’s communities nationwide. The items will also be available online at www.Kohls.com. Locally, Kohl’s partners with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in supporting the Safely Home: Child Passenger Seat Fitting Station. Over the past two years, Kohl’s has given more than $120,000 to support programs such as Safely Home.

Based on the movie, the story book version of the movie allows children to enjoy “Over the Hedge” time and time again. Further, kids can have their favorite characters sitting right next to them while reading.

“We are excited to offer this great blockbuster merchandise so that kids can continue to enjoy “Over the Hedge” before and after the theatre,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s. “In addition to sharing a great story with their families, shoppers will also help raise millions of dollars to benefit children nationwide.”

The Kohl’s Cares for Kids program supports children’s health and educational opportunities, including the Children’s Hospital Program that funds children’s health initiatives across the country; the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® scholarship program that recognizes kids who transform their local communities through volunteerism; an associate volunteer program that encourages volunteerism to benefit local youth-focused nonprofit organizations; and a gift card fundraising opportunity for local schools and non-profit youth groups.
