Purpose
To develop a measurement instrument to evaluate access to, and quality of, home health care for children with medical complexity. The instrument will assess issues such as timeliness, efficiency, effectiveness, safety, equity, expense, and patient-centeredness.
Outcome
A comprehensive, caregiver-reported measure of access to, and quality of, home health care for children with medical complexity was developed, pilot-tested, and fielded with caregivers. An article in Academic Pediatrics describes the development of the measure and provides information about accessing it for use. Three additional articles in academic journals resulted from this project, which covered workforce gaps, payment models, and policy challenges; parental needs and preferences in caring for children with medical complexity; and physical and environmental barriers to mobility and participation for children with medical complexity.
