Purpose

Only 13.2% of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) receive care in a well-functioning system. Unfortunately, families are often responsible for coordinating the many fragmented services and supports their children need.

The CYSHCN National Advisory Board (CYSHCN NAB) was convened by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to help address system siloes and other barriers to a system that meets the needs of CYSHCN and their families. This multidisciplinary advisory board is comprised of members representing several sectors that support CYSHCN and includes family/caregiver and youth representatives with lived experience.

Through this contract, the CYSHCN NAB will provide national leadership and guidance to the CYSHCN field by identifying key priorities to improve outcomes for CYSHCN and their families and offer guidance on benchmarks and policy initiatives to facilitate service coordination. The project team will develop and disseminate recommendations to advance the field and improve systems of services for CYSHCN and their families.
