Purpose
Patient portals allow caregivers to access their child’s medical records and manage their child’s health, yet patients and caregivers who speak a language other than English (LOE) have low portal enrollment and usage rates compared to those who are fluent in English. These disparities may further worsen health inequities. This qualitative study used focus groups with Spanish-speaking, LOE caregivers, including caregivers of children with chronic conditions, to explore perceptions of, barriers, and facilitators to using patient portals. The study identified strategies to improve patient portal use among Spanish-speaking caregivers.
