A grateful look back at the incredible impact of Summer Scamper
Participants will be lacing up their sneakers in a few weeks for this year’s Summer Scamper 5k Run/Walk, Kids’ Fun Run, and Family Festival on the Stanford campus. It’s a day that is filled with enthusiasm as everyone runs, strolls, and rolls down the 5k course and kids race around the track surrounded by family, friends, and local sports teams’ mascots. Inspiration abounds, as everyone eyes the same goal—transforming the health of children and their families throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
This year, we’re celebrating our community’s impact as we mark 15 years of Summer Scamper. Together since 2011, we’ve raised more than $6 million for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and the child and maternal health programs at the Stanford School of Medicine.
Every year, we celebrate our inspiring Patient Heroes—we’re up to 80 and counting! Koen, 12, was a Patient Hero in 2018, commemorating the time he spent in our hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
“From the lifesaving care for Koen, to the family centered support for us, to the energy everyone brings to Summer Scamper, this community is family, and we will forever be grateful for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital,” says his mom, Nickole. “Bring on our 13th Scamper as a family!”
Like Koen, Margarita Ramirez is going the extra mile. Ramirez, who works as an administrative assistant in Environmental Services at Packard Children’s Hospital, hasn’t missed a Summer Scamper yet.
“The event is one of the best fundraisers,” says Margarita. “I run the 5k because I want to make a difference with my contribution!”
Several of our corporate sponsors have Scampered since the start, too, including the Sheraton Palo Alto and The Westin Palo Alto hotels, and Joseph J. Albanese Inc. In 2022, the event reached another pinnacle when Gardner Capital became the first lead sponsor. Summer Scamper would not be possible without our generous sponsors.
“Packard Children’s improves our kids’ lives. It’s inspiring for our team to continue to be a small part of that,” says Phillip Albanese, president and CEO of Joseph J. Albanese Inc.

We’re so grateful to everyone who shows up each year—whether it’s their first or 15th time. Please join us on Saturday, June 21, as we celebrate this incredible milestone.
