William Gallentine, DO, was named the new division chief of Child Neurology at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. 

Gallentine is a clinical professor of neurology and has served as the interim chief of the Division of Child Neurology since 2023. He is renowned for his work in the subspecialty of pediatric epilepsy. As a clinician, he focuses on treating children with refractory epilepsy, including those with autoimmune and genetic epilepsies, and runs specialized clinics for these conditions. 

Gallentine’s research is driven by a passion for understanding the role of inflammation and genetics in epilepsy. His work aims to uncover novel biomarkers of epileptogenesis and seek therapeutic targets. He is also devoted to exploring mutation-specific treatments for genetic epilepsies. 

In addition to his academic and clinical positions, Gallentine has served in significant roles to foster the next generation of pediatric care providers. He is an active member of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, American Epilepsy Society, and American Academy of Neurology.
