“One of my favorite parts of being an allergy and immunology nurse is the relationships we can develop with our patients,” says Lisa Hoyte. “I have one patient who I met when he was about 9-months old, and he is now in his late 20s.”
Lisa, an ambulatory allergy and immunology nurse at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, is this year’s Summer Scamper Hospital Hero. Every year at Summer Scamper, we celebrate an employee who goes above and beyond, and Lisa came highly recommended by her colleagues for this honor. Her colleagues praised Lisa’s dedication to patients and her sunny personality.
“She always offers a lending hand to all staff members and always has a smile on her face that shines through the mask,” one colleague wrote. Another said, “She goes above and beyond for patient care, always willing to help wherever she can, and she brings positivity wherever she is.”
Lisa discovered her passion for allergy and immunology medicine while earning her master’s degree at the University of California, San Francisco. She started working for the university’s allergy and immunology division doing clinical trials, researching new allergy and immunology treatments. “I really fell in love with the specialty,” Lisa says. “There is so much variety, and things are always changing. Many of the things we do can be life-changing for patients.”
Lisa came to Packard Children’s Hospital in 1997 and is proud of the holistic care that our hospital provides to children with allergies. Beyond treating sometimes very serious health problems, she says, her team addresses problems that are going on in patients’ lives that can impact their health.
In addition to her patients, another inspiration for Lisa is her colleagues. “We really work well as a team. There is open communication with all of us,” she says.
Join Lisa and other supporters of Packard Children’s Hospital on Saturday, June 18 in-person on the Stanford campus for the Summer Scamper 5k and kids’ fun run or virtually any way that you’d like—Lisa’s favorite activity is cycling. She commutes to and from work by bike every day—way to go, Lisa!
Summer Scamper is our hospital’s largest community fundraiser of the year. Lisa is grateful to everyone who donates and fundraises through Scamper. “Philanthropy really makes such a big difference in the lives of our patients as well as our clinics,” she says. “It allows us to provide services to children and their families that they might not be able to get otherwise.”
Lisa, we’re grateful for everything you do for our hospital’s patients and their families! There’s still time to participate in Summer Scamper and raise funds for our hospital. Register today at summerscamper.org!
