The Stanford Solution
Imagine a child experiencing a life-threatening asthma attack, or feeling their throat start to swell after accidentally eating a food they are allergic to. They are struggling to breathe. Their family is panicking.
This doesn’t have to happen—we want to change the future so no child faces this scenario.
Currently, the most common solution families hear when diagnosed with food allergy is avoidance. But the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy & Asthma Research at Stanford University aims not only to find better treatments for allergies and asthma, but to discover underlying immune mechanisms of the diseases and develop a lasting cure.
6 Million
children in the U.S. have food allergies
40%
of children with allergies have reactions to multiple foods.
13.8 million
days of school are lost annually by children with asthma because of flare-ups.
មនុស្សត្រឹមត្រូវនៅកន្លែងត្រឹមត្រូវ
Led by co-Directors Sharon Chinthrajah, MD, and Scott Boyd, MD, PhD, the Parker Center unites specialists in a range of fields, including internal medicine, pathology, immunology, bioengineering, and genetics around studying all allergic diseases, including childhood asthma.
From wildfire smoke to manufacturing emissions, the air our children breathe can be dangerous. We are committed to developing solutions to protect children’s fragile respiratory and immune systems, ensuring they live long, healthy lives. We invite you to join us in this mission.

Our work is not possible without philanthropy. Your gifts will help us:
Fund seed grants for pilot studies.
We need to understand more about the root causes and nuances of allergy and asthma to develop solutions that change lives today. Even six-month research delays have ripple effects felt a decade later. We have the bright minds with novel ideas; we just need the partnership to launch or maintain these projects.
Build and sustain a dream team.
Our Center is home to world-renowned clinicians and researchers. We can attract and retain top-tier talent to develop the best solutions with endowed professorships, directorships, fellowships, and dedicated research coordinators
Help patients take control.
We need your help to put innovative diagnostic and digital health tools in the hands of clinicians and patients to speed up the time between diagnosis and treatment or, in the case of at-home spirometers that measure lung function, monitor a child’s health remotely and act quickly if there’s a problem.
Meet the Future of Allergy Research

Dr. Boyd is co-director of the Center and the Stanford Professor in Food Allergy and Immunology, and Professor of Pathology. He leads the Boyd Laboratory, where his team uses high-throughput DNA sequencing, single-cell experiments, and machine learning analyses to analyze human immune responses in disorders such as food allergy, as well as protective immune responses to infection and vaccination. Many of the lab’s projects analyze responses of B cells, and the genetics and functional roles of antibodies in health and disease.
Dr. Chinthrajah is co-director of the Center, overseeing all activities and leading our team in conducting innovative studies in food allergy, asthma, hay fever, and eczema. She also treats asthma patients and has visionary plans for the future of digital health care at our Center.
Dr. Sindher is director of the Clinical Translational Research Unit at our Center and active in our outpatient clinics, specializing in the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic allergic/immune condition where white blood cells build up in the esophagus. She is the principal investigator of several clinical research trials at our Center, developing treatments and prevention for food allergy.
