Pediatric Complex Care Seminar Session 3: Feeding Intolerance

Sarah and her husband raise three boys in the Treasure Valley. Her son Truman was born at 26-weeks gestation and due to complications from his traumatic birth he was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorder, Dysphagia and uses a feeding tube for nutrition and medication delivery. She has 16 years of experience navigating Medicaid, health care, and special education/services, as well as 20 years working in education including early childhood education. Sarah has a passion for developing relationships, sharing resources, and cultivating a sense of community that will enhance care. In turn, Sarah participates on many councils, committees, and workgroups related to children with medical complexity in addition to her role at IPUL.

Patricia is mom to two adult children. She has been married to Phoenix Fire Captain John Dean for 24 years. Patricia has been involved in parent leadership activities with many organizations, including Raising Special Kids (Arizona), Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She also sits on multiple boards and councils. Her youngest son Sean, who lives with cystic fibrosis, brought her into this medically complicated world 20 years ago. Patricia left the world of computer process engineering to care for Sean when he was a year old. She is currently an entrepreneur in the whole food nutrition and gardening business.

Dr. Mouzaki is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). She is the Clinical Director of Advanced Nutrition Services at CCHMC and an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati. Her research focuses on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and pediatric nutrition. Dr. Mouzaki received her MD from the National and Kapodistrian Medical School of Athens, Greece, and completed her Residency Training in General Pediatrics at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She completed her Fellowship Training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children and obtained a Masters in Science from the University of Toronto.

Laura Vresk received her bachelor of Science in Health Studies from the University of Waterloo and her Masters of Science in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph. She completed her clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children and currently practices as a clinical dietitian in the General Pediatrics and Complex Care programs. Laura has extensive experience in multiple clinical areas of pediatrics and her interests lie in education, capacity-building, and improving the nutritional status of children with medical complexity. She also holds a research grants from the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research and The SickKids' Centre for Global Child Health.
