Pediatric Complex Care Seminar Session 10: Patient Engagement in Clinical Research

Cara Coleman is the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at Family Voices National and the author of “I am Justice, Hear Me Roar” about her daughter, Justice, with medical complexity and disabilities. She is Associate Editor for Family Partnerships, Executive Editorial Board of Pediatrics. In the past, Cara has worked as an Instructor of Pediatrics at a medical school, an adult health specialist, a case manager for homeless pregnant women, a counselor in a shelter for battered women, a law clerk for a Judge, an immigration subject matter consultant, and an attorney serving low-income immigrants. Cara is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, has a Master’s in Public Health from Tulane University, and her Law Degree from Temple University. Cara is the 2019 Moose Krause Award winner for Distinguished Service from the University of Notre Dame Monogram Club.

Dr. Peter Rosenbaum is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and an Associate Member of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster University. He held an inaugural Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs (2001- 2014). In 1989, Peter co-founded the award-winning CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research, a health system-linked research unit now recognized worldwide for its research and dissemination activities. His research areas focus on childhood disability, family-centered service, family well-being in families of children with 'complicated lives,' and measurement and functional classification in childhood disability.

Treeby Brown is the Integrated Services Branch Chief, Division of Services for Children with Special Health Needs, Maternal and Child Health Bureau at Health Resources and Services Administration. Previously, Ms. Brown was a senior policy analyst at AMCHP for six years. She has also worked as a legislative analyst for the governor of North Carolina and as a press secretary and legislative assistant for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She holds a master of public policy degree from Duke University.
