Foundation Releases Results of Grantmaking Satisfaction Survey

Results Cover San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties

PALO ALTO – In an effort to be responsive to the communities it serves, the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health has released the results of a satisfaction survey of 123 of its grantees and other community members, foundation President and CEO Stephen Peeps announced today.

The majority of survey respondents rated the foundation very positively on most questions, from engagement with the local community to responsiveness and accessibility of staff. Survey respondents also pointed out ways in which the foundation could strengthen its grantmaking program, including streamlining the application process and convening grantees. The foundation already has taken action on some of these suggestions. The survey included organizations whose requests were not funded, as well as those who were, plus a selection of community leaders.

The foundation makes grants in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties to nonprofit organizations that serve children. In its first three years of grantmaking, the foundation has awarded 207 grants, totaling $20,462,284, to 117 different nonprofit organizations.

“We are a public trust, and the funding we provide to local organizations belongs to our community,” Peeps said. “It’s crucial to assess the community’s perceptions of our program. We’re pleased with the survey’s positive findings. Just as important, we value the suggestions on how we can better serve children’s health organizations in our region.”

The foundation makes community grants twice yearly in two focus areas, protecting children, ages 0 to 5, from injury, with an emphasis on preventing child abuse and neglect; and promoting behavioral and emotional health in preteens.

The foundation’s mission is to “promote, protect, and sustain the physical, mental, emotional and behavioral health of children.” For more information about the foundation’s community grantmaking program, call (650) 736-0676.
