Local Foundation Named Webby Award Finalist
PALO ALTO – Kidsdata.org, a website that offers data and information about the health and well being of children in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties and California, was one of five finalists for a Webby Award — the leading international award for websites — in the Family/Parenting category. The winners were announced today.
Kidsdata.org, a program of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, was nominated in the same category in 2005.
Kidsdata.org, which launched in October 2004, is a service for parents, media, and people who work with children. The site includes information on community resources, volunteer opportunities and related news and research, in addition to data on hundreds of indicators of children’s health. Data available through the site are sorted numerous ways: by topic, by region (school district, city, county, etc.) and by demographic (age, gender, race/ethnicity, etc.).
In a separate award, kidsdata.org also won a silver medal in March from the Council on Foundations for foundations in its size category. Another foundation website, kidscal.org, an online calendar of local children’s health events, won a gold medal in that same category.
The Palo Alto-based Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health is a public charity whose mission is to “promote, protect, and sustain the physical, mental, emotional and behavioral health of children.”
