Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford provides world-class care at every step in a family’s journey to have a child. Our expert physician-scientists at Packard Children’s tackle the toughest health problems head-on, including infertility, high-risk pregnancies, birth defects, premature birth, and more. With the help of generous donors, we are building on our exceptional treatment and setting the standard for leading-edge maternal and newborn care through pioneering research led by our outstanding team.

Dr. Yasser El-Sayed leads the maternal and fetal medicine programs at Packard Children’s Hospital. He has dedicated his career to treating women with high-risk complications during pregnancy, such as preterm labor or emergency fetal surgeries.

Dr. David Stevenson has, for the last four decades, been the face of neonatology at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Today, at the helm of the Prematurity Research Center, he’s uniting experts from across Stanford’s campus to achieve a bold, shared goal: ending premature birth.

Dr. Yair Blumenfeld and his team correct birth defects while a baby is still in the womb. He works alongside fetal therapists from all over the world to treat conditions like kidney failure, cystic fibrosis, and more—all before an infant takes their first breath.

Dr. Ruth Lathi has dedicated her career to supporting families who experience recurrent pregnancy loss. She takes a broad approach in her research and treatment, seeking to understand the genetic, environmental, and immunological factors at play—and, ultimately, prevent miscarriage.

Extraordinary Care for Every Growing Family

A healthy life starts with a healthy pregnancy. However, pregnant and postpartum moms and their babies can face stark inequities in maternal and infant health access and outcomes. Those disparities are greatest for Black, Asian, Indigenous, and Hispanic patients and people from low-income or rural communities.

With donor support, we will enhance our facilities and services so all mothers and babies in our community get the exceptional care they deserve.

Investing in Mothers & Babies

Transform Our Facilities

We’re reimagining our original hospital building to match the extraordinary level of care within. Private NICU rooms, a state-of-the-art labor and delivery unit, and healing gardens have been designed to improve patient experiences and outcomes.

Support the Whole Child and Family

Wraparound services are a hallmark of our family-centered care. Gifts of any amount will help expand crucial programs like mental health screenings for postpartum depression and anxiety, and family assistance for patient families in need of lodging and meals.

Unlock the Future of Medicine

Stanford’s physician-scientists are pursuing transformative ideas through groundbreaking research, including investigating the causes of prematurity and creating a blood test to predict preeclampsia risk before symptoms develop.

Sammy and Marni received expert care in our Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services. Marni had a high-risk pregnancy and was diagnosed with pre-eclamsia. Her care team monitored her closely to avoid seizures and other dangerous complications. They guided her through labor and Sammy was born a healthy baby. Today Marni and Sammy are thriving and were 2019 Summer Scamper Patient Heroes. PLEASE NOTE: This family does not want their last name published in materials.
