Bears on the move! A delivery truck filled to the brim with handmade teddy bears arrived at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford this week, thanks to a new donation from Bears for Humanity.
The Union City-based company supports our hospital through their “Buy One, Give One” philosophy: for every bear purchased, Bears for Humanity donates a bear to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and other nonprofit organizations. The latest special delivery included more than 500 soft and cozy bears—made of organic cotton and hemp—destined for our emergency department to provide comfort for children in the midst of a health crisis.
“These bears are a wonderful gift for our patients and their families,” says Bernard Dannenberg, MD, the Davies Family Endowed Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. “The calming effects a teddy bear can bring to a child in a scary or stressful situation are immeasurable.”
Renju Prathap founded Bears for Humanity after becoming a mother and seeing a need for safe, high-quality stuffed toys for her twins. She created the company with a mission of hiring employees through CalWORKS, a program that transitions families from public support to steady employment.
“Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford provides outstanding care to families in our community,” says Prathap. “It is our honor to give these bears to the hospital’s emergency department. We hope these bears bring as much comfort to the patients and families served by the hospital as they do to our customers.”
This latest donation marks the third year of support our hospital has received from Bears for Humanity.
