Alfred E. Mann Charities Awards $10 Million to the Stanford School of Medicine to Accelerate AI Innovations in Children’s Health

Catalytic investment will help recruit a world-class AI leader for the Hub for Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Medicine

Palo Alto, Calif.—Alfred E. Mann Charities, Inc. has made a $10 million gift to the دانشکده پزشکی استنفورد to recruit a world-class leader for the Hub for Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Medicine, a pioneering initiative dedicated to developing and deploying AI solutions in children’s health.

Michael Dreyer, president of Alfred E. Mann Charities, and Anoosheh Bostani, executive vice president of Alfred E. Mann Charities.

The gift will support the Hub’s growth and establish an endowed professorship in AI in pediatric medicine. The inaugural leader, expected to join Stanford Medicine in the coming academic year, will unify research efforts across the Stanford campus, leading the development of AI tools and driving their implementation at بیمارستان کودکان لوسیل پاکارد استنفورد.

“With this generous gift, we can deepen our efforts to bridge the gap between cutting-edge data science and real-world care for mothers and children,” says Mary B. Leonard, MD, MSCE, آرلین و پیت هارمن، استاد and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine and the آدالین جی، پزشک ارشد at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. “Groundbreaking work in pediatric AI is already happening at Stanford, and this Hub will unify and accelerate it, ensuring children benefit from these advances as quickly as possible.”

Stanford Medicine has been leveraging AI to make pediatric MRI faster and safer, predict complications of premature birth, personalize cancer treatment, help manage type 1 diabetes, and more. The Hub will galvanize these efforts and develop new ones.

Stanford is uniquely positioned to lead this work, bringing together a top-ranked children’s hospital, world-class computer science expertise, and the global technology industry, all on the same campus.

“Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform every aspect of medicine, from health care delivery to biomedical research to the education of the next generation of physician-scientists,” says Lloyd B. Minor, MDکارل و الیزابت ناومن، روسای دانشکده پزشکی استنفورد and vice president for medical affairs at Stanford University. “Stanford has long been a leader in AI, and we believe this technology could profoundly improve the health of our youngest patients.”

Alfred E. Mann Charities is a charitable organization that recognizes the legacy of Alfred E. Mann, a prolific inventor and philanthropist who dedicated his life to using technology and innovation to improve health outcomes.

“Alfred Mann believed that science and technology could profoundly improve human health. That conviction is at the heart of everything Alfred E. Mann Charities does,” says Michael Dreyer, president of Alfred E. Mann Charities.

“Investing in AI for pediatric medicine—where the need is urgent and the potential is enormous—reflects exactly the kind of impact Alfred would have championed. We are honored to help bring this initiative to life,” adds Anoosheh Bostani, executive vice president of Alfred E. Mann Charities.
