Today we’re celebrating National Injury Prevention Day, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Kohl’s for their recent gift of $225,000 to the Childhood Injury Prevention Program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Since 2005, Kohl’s has given more than $2.2 million to our hospital to help prevent and reduce unintentional injuries to Bay Area children.
The Childhood Injury Prevention Program is dedicated to keeping kids safe, focusing on protecting kids while on the move, at home, and at play. Kohl’s generous support each year helps the program to provide up-to-date safety programs, events, information, and equipment to our most vulnerable populations.
This year, the Kohl’s grant is helping more of our injury prevention programs go virtual, providing families with education and resources to continue safe practices at home. These include:
- Virtual and workshops for new and expecting parents and guardians. The workshops provide practical, easy-to-use information on safety in the car and at home for infants and toddlers. The program also supplies safety equipment for under-served families.
- Virtual classes to provide child passenger safety education for families, including demonstrating the proper way to install child safety seats. Patients who cannot afford a safety seat, or who have safety seats that are broken or expired, can get a safety seat through the car seat fund.
- Partnerships with local organizations and schools to implement Safetyville—a replica of a neighborhood filled with miniature crosswalks, traffic signs, and working traffic lights. Safetyville is a fun and entertaining way to reinforce pedestrian and bike safety curriculum for young children at elementary schools and community events.
Thank you to Kohl’s for helping make our communities a safer place for families!
