“There’s no such thing as too much,”—that’s Maisy’s motto for fashion and philanthropy. At just 8-years-old, this pint-sized Champion for Children is using her creativity to raise some serious funds for our patients.
“First I was making hats out of paper and I wanted to make them for kids who are bald,” Maisy explains the inspiration behind her desire to help children undergoing cancer treatment. “But then I thought headbands were more fun. There were a lot of kids wearing these puff headbands, but we wanted our headbands to be more awesome.”
Maisy Puffs was born. Maisy with the help of her mom, Bella, created hundreds of cute headbands to sell at school events, pop-up shops, and even college football games. In just a year and a half, they have raised an astonishing $4,000 for childhood cancer research at our hospital.
“We’re very proud of her. Of course we try to instill these values in our kids, but this was all her idea, and she is always looking for ways to help others,” says Bella, a former volunteer in our hospital playroom. “She wants it to be a symbol for kids with cancer. It’s not just a headband—it’s hope.”
Maisy Puffs come in an assortment of fun colors, some even with “bling.” The most popular (and Maisy’s favorite) is the Cotton Candy Bling: that’s one light blue puff paired with a fuchsia puff, adorned on a studded pink and blue headband.
There’s another less advertised benefit of buying a Maisy Puff. “We found out that they’re good luck!” Maisy affirms. “If you wear a Maisy Puff headband at a Stanford Football game, they will win.
While we can’t attest to Maisy’s claim of helping your team to victory, we can say for a fact that your Maisy Puff purchase will help kids in our care win their fight against cancer—and look pretty cute doing it!
