Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is now one of the first children’s hospitals in the world to launch the da Vinci 5 surgical robot—the next generation of robotic surgery. This advanced technology enhances surgical precision, minimizes recovery time, and improves outcomes for young patients.
“It truly transforms the surgical experience for children, giving them the best chance for swift and complete recovery,” says Karthik Balakrishnan, MD, Susan B. Ford Surgeon-in-Chief and a pediatric otolaryngologist at Packard Children’s.
Patients undergoing urology, gynecology, and bariatric procedures are among the first to benefit from the da Vinci 5. Research and planning are underway in collaboration with the FDA to expand robotic surgery to more specialties at Packard Children’s, including ear, nose, and throat surgeries.
