On a sunny October morning in Palo Alto in 2018, leaders from Stanford Federal Credit Union and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford gathered to celebrate the dedication of the entry garden at the hospital’s new Main building. Dennis Lund, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Stanford Children’s Health, spoke to the significance of the event. “Our founder, Lucile Packard, believed in the healing power of nature, and through your gift you have helped to keep her vision alive,” Lund said. “You’ve provided a warm, welcoming entrance into the hospital grounds.”
The commemoration of the Stanford Federal Credit Union Garden was a symbolic moment honoring a friendship that has spanned decades. The entry garden stands tribute to Stanford Federal Credit Union’s many contributions to our hospital, which have helped build Packard Children’s into the wonderful institution of healing and hope that it is today.
Stanford FCU, one of Packard Children’s longest supporters, has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to the health of our community’s children through its support of patients, programs, and employees at our hospital. In addition to Stanford Federal Credit Union’s generous gift to name the entry garden, they have been a dedicated supporter of the Art Cart Program, which brings interactive art projects to patients at their bedside. Thanks to the Art Cart, patients who are too sick to leave their rooms can enjoy a variety of art activities and receive one-on-one attention in the comfort of their hospital rooms.
Since 2012, Stanford FCU has sponsored the annual Summer Scamper, bringing out large teams of employees to run, walk, and scamper for children’s health. Through their Scamper sponsorships, Stanford Federal Credit Union has given more than $120,000 to the Children’s Fund. Finally, Stanford FCU is committed to serving the employees of Stanford Children’s Health through their membership services. Through the "You Switch. Kids Win." campaign, a donation is made directly to our hospital in honor of hospital employees and volunteers who open a new account with them. In these ways, Stanford FCU serves the people who serve the patients and families of Packard Children’s.
