Past participants in the Pediatrics Internship Program at Stanford (PIPS) remark that PIPS helped them build connections, showed them various medical career paths, and even inspired them to “be a better person.” This enthusiasm for science is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors like the Jae S. Lim Foundation, which began its support in 2023.
The six-week summer internship program introduces rising high school juniors and seniors from across the Bay Area to the world of science, medicine, and research. Designed for students with little to no prior exposure to research, PIPS provides hands-on learning, mentorship from Stanford faculty and researchers, and the opportunity to complete a real-world research project.
The Jae S. Lim Foundation has funded 21 students to participate in PIPS over the last three years.
“Support from the Jae S. Lim Foundation enables us to provide stipends to students from low-income backgrounds, giving them the freedom to fully immerse themselves in research,” says Allison Guerin, MEd, EdD, director of the internship program. “For many of our students, that stipend replaces the income they need to contribute to their families and cover school-year expenses.”
Thank you, Jae S. Lim Foundation, for helping students gain the skills, knowledge, and inspiration to pursue careers in health care and biomedical research.
